"We have found that people who are very electrosensitive in the evening, do not sleep well in the night". Prof. dr. Norbert Leitgeb of the Technical University of Graz in Austria told it to a journalist of the Grazer Woche. "This could indicate, that mobile phone masts and other sources of radiofrequent radiation indeed have a negative influence on the well being of many persons."

His saying refers just to the result of a pilotstudy, meant to verify the design of a larger investigation to come. Nevertheless the result is spectacular, Leitgeb confirms. Of nine testpersons the more electrosensitive appeared to sleep much better when protected from radiofrequent radiation. Leitgeb does not find this is proof yet. The upcoming research has to confirm the relationship between sleeping quality, electrosensitivity (50 Hz) and the load of radiofrequent radiation by GSM masts, DECT wireless telephones, WLAN wireless networks and other sources. The research will not take place in a laboratory, though at home with twenty people throughout Austria. Results are expected in the beginning of 2006.

Causal relationship

In an article in the magazine Bioelectromagnetics Leitgeb describes the existence of electrosensitivity. It is proven that some persons have a heightened sensitivity for electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields. "Though there has not been established a causal relationship yet, the symptoms of some persons are thus severe, that they leave their homes and jobs and try to find release in an environment with less 'electromagnetic pollution'. These persons have a serious problem and need to get help. To find proof of a causal relationship is not just a scientific interest, but the problem also has a socio-economic aspect", says Leitgeb.

UMTS mobile phone masts

In The Netherlands there is a growing stir about the placement of UMTS mobile phone masts. Also the GSM mobile phone masts, DECT wireless telephones and WLAN wireless networks are suspect of causing 'radiofrequent radiation sickness'. A symptom is the heightened electrosensitivity to low frequency electric and magnetic fields (50 Hz), but the sickness also would have other symptoms like sleeping disturbances, palpitations of the heart, high blood pressure, tinglings, concentration and remembrance distortions, dizziness, burning skin, tinnitus, eye problems, lack of energy and many more. In The Netherlands a study by TNO confirmed the correlation of cognitive functional deviations and the radiation of GSM and UMTS. Moreover, the radiation of UMTS appeared to cause tinglings and dizziness.

There is proof of the effects upon health fof pulsed EMR from masts.

posted by Cllr. Mrs. Gill Lyden on 11 Sep 2005 at 12:58 pm

Proof was found in the 1990s during tests in Schwarzenberg. See:-

1)Dr.Neil Cherry's document, 'EMR Reduces Melatonin in Animals and Humans'.

2) The book by Paul Brodeur, 'The Zapping of America'. Especially in the chapter dealing with the 'Pandora Project'

The book tells how the Soviets first found damage to health amongst workers in the EMR industries in the 1930s.

They warned America of the dangers of pulsed, low frequency EMR and microwave emissions, and, annoyed when the warnings were ignored, proceeded to bombard the office of theAmerican ambassador, Walter J.Stoessel, in the embassy in Moscow with Radar at a strength of 1 to 4 milliwatts (the American 'safe' level for emissions was 10 milliwatts at the time). With this 1 to 4 MW low level of emissions children of embassy staff developed problems with their blood; many staff had 40% raised white bloodcell count; the Ambassador suffered 'bleeding eyes' and he and another member of staff both developed a 'leukaemia-like disease' and Mr Stoessel died of this. The embassy was bombarded throughout the 1960s and 70s. Later the Russians apologised. They had not realised that after 3 years exposure damage can be permanent. Residents in my village have suffered symptoms which are to be found wherever emissions have effects - insomnia and headaches; NAUSEA and VERTIGO; EARACHE TINNITUS and HEARING LOSS; BLOODSHOT SORE EYES; severe rashes; ulcerated mouths and throats plus extreme thirst; raised white bloodcell count (NB the Pandora Pocument for the latter).

Symptoms are proliferating in direct proportion to the placing of masts. After using protective material, thus reducing their symptoms, one family I know have had those symptoms return just as strongly with the erection of a 3Gmast close by.
Symptoms in my village are getting worse, the residents having been exposed now for 4 years, as an Orange mast was erected 14metres from homes.

Why will no-one in vestigate in situ instead of in laboratories where it is impossible to replicate those things which decide whether people suffer mildly or severely e.g.
a) The terrain; b) The angle of homes to the source of emissions.
c) Sleeping arrangements (position of bedrooms/beds in relation to masts). d)Age and exisitng health problems. (the very old, very young or young or those already suffering health problems are most badly affected).
We do not want to get rid of mobile phones and masts - we merely want them to be made safe for us to use. I hope the proposed new, small antennae in the UK will operate at safe levels, then there will be no need for anyone to be affected so badly. In teh meantime, I wish all governments would listen to the [oor people who are suffering so badly - I have felt the emissions in the homes of people I am trying to help, and I cannot stay in their houses for longer that 15 or so minutes because I feel so sick, tired and ill.
With sincere wishes for a healthy future to all who read this.

Gillian Lyden
