The 2011 flu season is now in full swing, with influenza activity continually increasing in at least 25 states, extending from California all the way to New York. To protect against this highly contagious illness, Concentra is urging every person to get an annual flu shot.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently reports more than 1,800 suspected specimens of flu circulating through communities across the nation. For those who have yet to receive a flu shot, Concentra Urgent Care has plenty of doses available at locations across the nation, with no appointment necessary. Experts agree that a flu vaccine is the best defense against contracting the flu virus and has shown to reduce an individual's chance of getting the flu by 90 percent in healthy adults.
"Concentra is poised to protect the health and well-being of individuals across the country by providing flu shots when they need them," said W. Tom Fogarty, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Concentra. "It's part of our continued commitment to deliver the right care at the right time."
Influenza, or the flu, is an extremely contagious respiratory infection and often includes symptoms like high fever, cough, and full body aches. Flu symptoms are more severe than those of colds and can cause severe complications, resulting in an average of 36,000 deaths each year. The flu can be prevented through routine hand washing, proper diet and exercise, and an annual flu vaccine.
Flu shots are available at all Concentra Urgent Care locations across the country. No appointment is necessary, walk-ins are welcome. With locations throughout the nation, many with weekend and extended evening hours, Concentra delivers the care patients need, when they need it most.
