USA Today on Tuesday examined the "growing number" of middle-aged women who travel to the United States from other countries to undergo in vitro fertilization or other fertility treatments. Most of the women come from Canada, Australia and parts of Europe where "tough laws" forbid payment to egg donors and often limit women who wish to become pregnant to using eggs donated from a younger friend, a family member or a "small pool" of unpaid donors, sometimes creating waiting lists of several years, according to USA Today. However, in the United States, there are an "abundance of egg donors," many of whom dictate their own fees, as well as a "plethora" of IVF clinics in many states, USA Today reports (Leigh, USA Today, 5/3). The complete article is available online.
