The premiere 2005 issue of ...Plum -- a magazine aimed at pregnant women ages 35 and older and co-developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and New York-based publisher Rebekah Meola -- recently has been released in physicians' offices nationwide, the San Antonio Express-News reports. The magazine, which for now is scheduled to be published only once per year and distributed exclusively through doctors' offices, is "a cross between a woman's beauty and lifestyle magazine and a health/pregnancy manual," according to the Express-News. Plum is billed as the first magazine targeted at "one of the country's fastest growing demographics" -- older pregnant women. According to CDC statistics, between 1990 and 2002, the birth rate among women ages 35 to 39 increased 30%, while the birth rate among women ages 40 to 44 increased 51% (Pisano, San Antonio Express-News, 5/23).
