Scotland Yard has confirmed a number of incidents involving tube trains and buses in central London. The London Underground system is closed but will gradually reopen as soon as is practical. A full bus service is being re-established.

The Emergency Services advised people in London to stagger their journeys home.

A Casualty Bureau emergency hotline has been opened for concerned friends and relatives - 0870 1566 344.

People in London were advised:

-- to stagger their journeys home

-- not to contact the Emergency Services unless a life-threatening emergency

-- that London's Emergency Plan is in full operation.
