The 4th Annual Iraq Health Conference & Exhibition will be held at Baghdad International Fair Ground on 2 - 5 September 2014. Organized under the patronage of Ministry of Health, this event will bring together exhibitors and visitors from all around the world to present their products and services. The event will include the presentation of current and release of new projects in Iraq. A number of Southern Health Directorates will also be hosted.
The exhibition will host a number of multinational pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturers and their local distributors, in addition to local and regional hospitals interested in promoting services, affiliations and medical tourism.
The event will facilitate the access to Iraqi thriving market by providing a platform to share business opportunities with international players and strategic partnership with local distributors.

The conference will feature a number of sponsored workshops to address critical medical topics such as, oncology, hematology, diabetes and cardiovascular disease in an effort to share and expand knowledge and expertise of physicians and healthcare leaders. The program is CME and CPE accredited by the Institute of HealthCare Research at Cambridge Academy for Higher Education. More than 250 physicians from public and private hospitals will participate this year.
About Iraq
With a population of 32 million people, growing at a rate of 9.5%, with a GDP of more than $ 143 billion, with 128 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and with a growing demand for both preventive and curative healthcare systems, Iraq is the key emerging healthcare destination in the MENA region. Government expenditures on health sector have increased in the last decade. Spending increased from 2.7% of GDP in 2003 to 8.4% in 2010 and is expected to reach 10% in 2014.
The Government recently awarded 18 health project contracts worth $ 276 million in nine provinces. The projects will be located in Baghdad, Anbar, Babil, Najaf, Basra, Diyala, Ninawa, al-Muthanna and Wasit provinces, and are to be completed within three years.
A contract has been signed to build three 800-bed hospitals in Baghdad, worth $ 360 million.
With multiple projects underway and no local manufacturing facility to meet the demand, the demand is expected to increase exponentially. Iraq Health Expo will set up the platform for both dealers and purchasers to meet country's demands.
2.500 expatriate Iraqi doctors have returned home as part of a program launched last year to bring Iraqi professionals back to the country.
Pharmaceutical industry has experienced remarkable growth in the country at 16% in the past five years. The volume of spending on pharmaceutical supplies reached about $ 1.3 billion in 2013 and is expected to rise during the current year to $ 1.5 million. There has been an immense growth of 40% in the imports of medical equipment over the past five years in Iraq. In 2012 alone, $ 500 million was spent on procuring healthcare IT technology in 2013 and $ 1 billion is earmarked for the next two years.
Iraqi Government is allocating $ 12 billion in 2014 to ensure improvement of its healthcare sector that will be available to all its citizens.
