Extractables and Leachables (E&L Europe) conference full agenda for 2014 has been revealed. The 3 day event will feature an introductory pre-conference workshop led by Smithers Rapra conference, a two day speaker programme covering analytical advances in E&Ls and best practises from working groups, toxicologists and expert pharmaceutical representatives, plus poster sessions and extended networking opportunities.

Last year's E&L Europe saw a record attendance of delegates, with over 130 pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device manufacturers, packaging and materials suppliers, CROs, government representatives and academics in attendance. For 2014, the event is no longer running alongside Smithers Pira's annual food contact event and will now take place in its own venue, which has even more scope for growth, both from a delegate perspective and from the complementary exhibition.

With many new case studies of E&Ls in various drug devices and materials, including infusion pump systems, pre-filled syringes, implantable devices and production contact materials, E&L Europe will bring you the freshest content throughout the two day agenda. Plus, a comprehensive look at simulation studies and assessment methodologies for E&Ls will provide you with the chance to get up to speed with current approved best practises for your product testing.

It is always a highlight of the agenda when delegates can hear from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and Dr Melanie Pires, Senior Pharmaceutical Assessor will be opening the conference to provide this important regulatory perspective.

E&L Europe are also pleased to welcome expert faces across from the US this year, including Dr Dennis Jenke of Baxter, Diane Paskiet of West Pharmaceuticals and Alan Hendricker of Becton Dickinson. Their participation will ensure that attendees receive a broad view of the E&L landscape, including critical updates, not only from the European regulatory standpoint, but also from forward thinking working groups and companies from across both sides of the Atlantic.

Carsten Worsøe, co-chair and member of the expert advisory board comments that this year's agenda has the potential to follow the unique path from previous years E&L Europe conferences bringing industries within material suppliers, pharmaceutical companies, contract laboratories, health authorities and more together to discuss materials, supply chain perspectives, analytical chemistry, toxicology and regulatory approaches with respect to extractables and leachables.

Further highlights of the conference include a case study of L&E Evaluation for a Biotech API Production Site from Juergen Wilhelm, QC-Specialist, Filter and Plastics at Roche Diagnostics and a joint presentation from Dr Wolfgang Dirk, Product Manager Plastic Parenteral Vials, Gerresheimer and Dr Frank Welle, Senior Scientist at Fraunhofer IVV on their simulation study about migration through polymers based on a diffusion model.

Plus, the pre-conference workshop, led by Dr. Andrew Feilden, Chemistry Operations Director at Smithers Rapra, is not to be missed by those requiring an introduction to extractables and leachables, material selection, risk based analysis and extractable and leachable testing. In addition to the two day program, poster sessions, including a selection from the PQRI-PODP working group, will allow attendees to hear even more about recent research and findings relating to all areas of E&Ls.
