The Global Transformation of Healthcare: The Global Tilt and Rethinking Your Role in Medical Technology

Thomas M. Loarie, Executive Chairman, eMedonline
US medical device manufacturers today are facing a new set of variables that threaten its global leadership role in a growing global market - a geopolitical shift from the North Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, an economic tilt from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere, increasing government intervention in mature healthcare markets to limit the cost of healthcare, increasing government regulation limiting innovation in therapeutic segments, an aging global population, the threat of aggressive competitors from emerging markets, and as multinationals scramble to avoid "not-so-creative" destruction. Tom will examine several of these key variables and extrapolate new insights for the medical device professional on how to survive and thrive during this tumultuous period of change and opportunity. He will also provide "personal-branding" insights gained over thirteen years while assisting thousands of executives, managers, and professionals who have chosen to reinvent themselves to make better use of their gifts in a rapidly changing global economy

Keynote Presentation

The View from Washington

Duane Wright, Vice President, Government Affairs, AdvaMed
With the mid-term elections settled and a new Congress to be sworn in by January, the environment in Washington will be focused on what, if anything, can be accomplished in the months leading up to the 2016 election.  At the forefront will be the ability, or willingness, of both Congress and the President to seek common ground on a number of issues.  Will Congress and the President refocus efforts on fiscal policy?  Does the new Congress represent an opportunity to address the medical device excise tax?  Will gridlock in Washington continue as both parties position for the 2016 elections?  While it is too soon to answer these questions, this session will examine the opportunities and threats to the medical device industry in 2015

Keynote Presentation

Innovation Consultant and Adjunct Professor at NYU Poly

Dana Landry, Certification Committee Chairman, International Association of Innovation Professionals
The word innovation suffers from overuse and has lost much of its meaning in today's corporate culture. The medical device industry has been a shining star of innovation in the past and requires innovation more than ever as it faces an uncertain future. The science of innovation is an evolutionary move to create a better understanding of the processes, tools, methods and skills required to deliver new and exciting value to customers in a consistent and measureable manner. This effort is based on the belief that indeed everyone can be innovative and everyone can be taught, coached and managed to be better at innovation tomorrow than they are today. In this talk you will:

  • Discover that there is an innovation body of knowledge that comprises a science
  • Learn how the new International Association of Innovation Professionals is taking a panoramic view of the science of innovation
  • Discover that innovation is something every person, team and group can learn and get better at doing
  • Understand the value of obtaining professional certification for yourself and your employees.

The Medical Device Manufacturing Summit is a premier meeting point for leading senior medical device manufacturing executives. This two-day experience will provide you with key issues others are facing in the industry, informative industry solutions and actionable ideas.
