Dr Frank Tally, physician and chief scientific officer at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, an established biotechnology company said:
"Antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a growing health concern facing the U.S., as established antibiotic drugs have proven ineffective in treating many infectious diseases. Hospital- and community- based outbreaks of these bacteria have reached significant proportions, and patients must still rely on therapies that are no longer adequate to treat these conditions. The need for novel drugs is increasing."
Cubist Pharmaceuticals has an approved antibiotic on the market, which also recently completed late-stage trials for an additional indication.
