Consultation On Treatment Of Migraine, UK
Main Category: Headache / MigraineArticle Date: 17 Aug 2005 - 7:00 PDT
Responding to the announcement today of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) consultation on a proposal to allow sumatriptan and zolmitriptan to be available without prescription under the supervision of a pharmacist for the acute relief of migraine attacks Sue Kilby, Head of Practice at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, said:
"The Society welcomes the consultation on the MHRA's proposal to allow sumatriptan and zolmitriptan to be available without prescription under the supervision of a pharmacist for the acute relief of migraine attacks.
"Following the recent successful reclassification of prescription-only (POM) to pharmacy (P) medicine status of chloramphenicol (eye drops) we are pleased to see that pace of applications for reclassification of a wide range of products continues to grow. As experts in medicines, pharmacists are already familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of migraine. Proposals such as this provide significant opportunities for greater patient choice and recognise the important role pharmacists play in helping people to access advice and treatment in a safe, effective and convenient way. The Society will be making a full and considered response."

medication that works
posted by marie on 24 Oct 2005 at 9:46 pmI am glad that sumatriptan may become available via the pharmicist. It is the only medication that has ever worked on my migraine, although it doesnt work permanently it gives me respite from the horrendous pain of migraine. This is by injection as any medication taken orally is vomited back up . But it does work.
