The Roll Back Malaria - Malaria in Pregnancy Working Group is pleased to announce the finalization of two important concept notes:

1) Roll Back Malaria Partnership Malaria in Pregnancy Working Group: Consensus Statement on Folic Acid Supplementation During Pregnancy

2) Continuous Distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets in Africa Through Antenatal and Immunization Services: A Joint Statement by the Roll Back Malaria Working Groups on Malaria in Pregnancy and Vector Control and the Alliance for Malaria Prevention

The concept notes, developed in collaboration with RBM partners, aim to increase access to and awareness of preventive care for malaria in pregnancy; namely, correct dose of folic acid for pregnant women and Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets at antenatal care. Pregnant women are highly vulnerable to malaria infection, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, where each year approximately 10,000 women and up to 200,000 infants will die. Receiving the correct dose of folic acid during pregnancy and sleeping under an LLIN, in combination with other control measures including intermittent preventive treatment during pregnancy and effective case management, will help to improve the lives of women and their babies and ultimately decrease maternal and infant mortality.
