Tokyo (JCN) - Hitachi Transport System announced on August 23 that it has developed a compact container for the transport of cultured cells used in regenerative medicine in collaboration with Hitachi.
The new container, which is wrapped with a vacuum insulation material and uses neither temperature controlling device nor power source, enables a long-distance transport of cultured cells at fixed temperature.
Further, Hitachi Transport System has confirmed the validity of the container in collaboration with Tokyo Women's Medical University. Specifically, in their joint recent transport experiment carried out between Shinjuku and Narita (about 100km in distance), the container sustained a specific temperature (equivalent to body temperature) for approximately 40 hours. The result indicates that the container is capable of transporting cultured cells across Japan as well as to overseas destinations.
The company expects that the new container will pave the way for a new distribution system for the medical and biotechnology industries.
