A new product from Bayer HealthCare's Animal Health Division is available with immediate effect to protect cats against all relevant, normally occurring species of worm. Designed as a spot-on preparation with two active ingredients, Profender® is the first prescription-only, broad-spectrum product that allows comprehensive deworming in just one treatment step. One of the product's active ingredients comes from a new class of active substances, and Bayer HealthCare is the first company to use a compound from this substance class in an animal health product. This has the major benefit that only one anti-parasite product with spot-on administration is required to combat these parasitic pests. Some 1,400 veterinarians had the opportunity to find out more about the quality of the product at their annual conference in Bremen, Germany.

The presentation of new innovations and further developments underlines Bayer HealthCare's status as an inventor company in keeping with the principle of "Science for a Better Life". This year, animal owners and veterinarians have already benefited from a new antiparasite product to combat ear mites and various other external and internal parasites.

The animal health products are supplemented by care products. The new VetriDerm® ear cleaner removes dead mites and excrement from the ears of our four-legged friends. This easy-to-use care product is applied to the animal's ear in droplets, where it then dissolves the dirt. The ear cleaner contains cosmetic substances to clean and moisturize the mucosa of the auditory canal. This product will be available from veterinarians as of November.

Livestock husbandry benefits from new therapeutic products Bayer Vital recently launched Glutellac® F, a modern dietary supplement for oral rehydration therapy in piglets suffering from diarrhea. This kind of electrolyte solution was previously only available for cattle. Fast and efficient rehydration of the sick animals is vital to prevent them from suffering any further consequences from diarrhea, and is therefore an essential precondition for reconvalescence and the minimization of losses.

Baytril® - The Original 10% Injection Solution, which was recently approved in Germany for the treatment of acute E.coli mastitis, closes a significant gap in the existing range of treatments for mastitis and makes it possible to efficiently combat this condition, an extremely significant disease in dairy farming. The optimal properties of the globally successful anti-infective Baytril® ensure a rapid cure and resumption of milk production. This animal health product, which is acknowledged as the gold standard in the treatment of severe infectious diseases, was recently also approved for indications in piglets and rabbits.

"These innovative animal health products once again underline our commitment to identifying and meeting the needs of our customers. That includes efficient treatment of animals that veterinarians and owners can carry out comfortably and conveniently," explained Ernst Brenner, Head of Marketing at Bayer Vital GmbH, the German sales organization of Bayer HealthCare.
