New role for hemin in pancreatic injury

In a paper appearing online on October 20 in advance of print publication of the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, M. Bishr Omary and colleagues from Stanford University identify a novel protective role for hemin in experimental mouse pancreatitis and provide a cellular mechanistic basis for such protection.
These studies provide a foundation for further studies towards a potential new therapeutic approach for the treatment of human pancreatitis.
