The University of Washington (UW) Department of Microbiology will host the American Society for Microbiology Northwest Branch Meeting for 2006. The Northwest Branch is comprised of microbiologists residing in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and British Columbia, Canada. ASM offers a wealth of resources to microbiologists including access to publications (12 journals and 5 others with specialized topic focus), education, awards and fellowships, mentoring programs, public policy guidelines and public education. The Northwest branch meeting will provide scientific and educational forums to interested students, faculty, and clinical microbiologists.

The meeting begins on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., March 10 and concludes at noon, Sunday, March 12, 2006. All meetings will be held in the University of Washington Health Sciences Building. The attendees will be able to choose from 8 different sessions with more than 38 guest speakers, many who are pre-eminent in their fields. Friday evening, March 10, will feature keynote addresses by Dr. Stanley Maloy, San Diego State University and President of the American Society for Microbiology and Dr. Pete Greenberg, chair of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington. There will also be an opportunity for graduate students to present their research via presentation and poster sessions on Saturday.

The meeting is open to any and all interested persons. The registration fee is $20 for faculty and $10 for all others. The fee includes a catered reception on Friday evening and a box lunch on Saturday.
