The Parkinson's Disease Society's Holiday and Respite Care Guide 2006 is now available. The guide contains information on respite facilities, hotels, guest houses, holiday centres, self-catering accommodation and tour operators that cater for the needs of people with Parkinson's, their carers and families.
This year's guide has been designed to make it easier for people to find what they're looking for. The beginning of the guide includes general advice and tips on travel as well as holiday operators, information on respite care, financial help and requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act. The guide is then split into different regions of the UK within which are six sections detailing options of the different types of breaks:
-- Disabled-friendly hotels and guesthouses
-- Disabled-friendly and self-catering
-- Homes, centres and hotels with care facilities
-- Spas and health clinics
-- Breaks for carers
-- Special interest / activity holidays
In addition, there is a section on international holidays.
Robert Meadowcroft, Director of Policy, Campaigns and Information said: "Going on holiday or taking a break can be the perfect way for people to recharge their batteries or to develop new interests. For people with Parkinson's and their families, a holiday or trip may require a little more planning and preparation than normal. The Holiday and Respite Care Guide is produced to make this process as straight forward as possible by providing easy-to-follow and digestible information."
