FLUORIDE IN DRINKING WATER: A SCIENTIFIC REVIEW OF EPA'S STANDARDS, a new report from the National Academies' National Research Council, examines whether the limit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has placed on the amount of fluoride allowed in drinking water is adequate to protect against adverse health effects associated with excess exposure to the chemical. Drinking water supplies or wells that reach or exceed the current EPA standard contain fluoride from naturally occurring sources or from contamination. The report does not examine the risks or benefits of adding fluoride to drinking water for dental health purposes. It will be released at a one hour news conference.
