TV presenter and ex-EastEnders actor Chris Parker is urging everyone to put their walking boots on and get 'Out in the Open' to raise money for Epilepsy Action.
Epilepsy Action is holding its annual nationwide 'Out in the Open' sponsored walks on Sunday 14 May 2006 to mark the beginning of National Epilepsy Week. The charity, which is the UK's largest member-led epilepsy organisation, needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible to reach this year's fundraising target of Ł50,000.
Chris Parker, who is supporting the walks, is asking people all over the UK to take part. He said: "People can get involved by organising a walk in their local area or by taking part in an existing walk. It's fun, easy to organise and will get you out and about with your friends and family, plus it's a brilliant way to raise some money for a deserving charity."
Rachel Casey, Epilepsy Action's events fundraising officer, comments: "We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who organised and took part in a sponsored walk last year. The event raised over Ł35,000 which is a great achievement. Anyone can organise a walk anywhere - we've had walks taking place everywhere from city centres to National Parks, with everything from tens to hundreds of walkers."
All walk organisers are eligible for a new 'Out in the Open' walk T-shirt, recently launched by Chris Parker. It doesn't matter if you trek for miles or take a short stroll, every step will be helping Epilepsy Action to continue its vital work.
Anyone interested in organising or taking part in a walk in their area should contact Rachel Casey on 0113 210 8800 or visit our website at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk.
