Our Association is a non-governmental humanitarian organization established in 2001 with the aim of providing assistance and education to persons who suffer from epilepsy, as well as to those who are either in direct or indirect contact with them.

This is in order to help them better organize themselves in realization of their basic human rights when it comes to: their children, education, free choice of occupation, realization of right to work, care of the ill, and to enable them to become equal members of the community they live in and belong to.

Although the Association is primarily registered on the Cantonal level, it expanded its activities to the whole territory of the Federation. The reason is that our Association is the only organization of this kind on the BiH territory, and there are many persons with epilepsy who require more stable health condition than they are currently in.

Association gathers 170 members of Sarajevo Canton, 85 from other Cantons, as well as 10 associate members: doctors (neurologists), social workers and pedagogues.

Our Association would be even more numerous if this illness wasn't a taboo and if there were no prejudice related to it. This is why we use this opportunity to invite all those with this medical condition, their parents, friends and others who have interest in epilepsy to join us.

Problems we encounter are: Lack of modern anti-epileptics, which are unfortunately not on the essential list in BiH, and are very expensive, to buy them and to get them.

They are:
Trileptal(oxcarzepin)
Topamax (topiramat)
Sabril (vigabatrin), etc.

One monthly supply of the above mentioned anti-epileptics per one member resistant to standard anti-epileptics is from 75 to 150 Euro.

We are, unfortunately not able to get those medications regularly, without help from the wider public and good humane people.

The mentioned anti-epileptics are not taken for a month or two, but for years, and some, unfortunately for the rest of one's life.

Apart from the above-mentioned problems, our association is in desperate need of office equipment, such as: computers, printers, fax machines and other equipment necessary to carry out our activities.

We wish to send this appeal to all the people of good will and ask them to show some humanity and will, and get actively involved in the wider campaign against this illness, which is taking place in Europe and here, in Bosnia.

How can you help us?

There are many ways and we will be grateful for any one of them:

-- Be one of the sponsors of our work and activities.
-- You can donate your products, instead of money.
-- You can pay in some money on our bank account.
-- You can help us in procurement or purchasing of the necessary anti-epileptics.
-- You can offer us your services free of charge.

Even if you don't offer anything concrete (money, products or services) we will be grateful if you transmit this message to your acquaintances, friends, family members.

By offering support to those who are ill, you can save and extend their lives

Respectfully yours.

P.S. Please provide us with you reply on this appeal.
