1. To advise you of the situation in Denmark following outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

Background

2. This is to advise you that a Declaration has been made under:

-- regulation 35 of the Products of Animal Origin (Import and Export) Regulations 1996
-- regulation 27 of the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (England) Regulations 2005

3. The purpose of the Declaration is to restrict/ban live birds and bird products from the affected areas in Denmark in accordance with Commission Decision 2006/135/EC PDF Document as amended by Commission Decision 2006/384/EC PDF Document.

4. The restricted zones are defined as Area A and Area B and are described in Commission Decision 2006/384/EC. The movement from these areas of animals and products are banned or restricted, subject to certain exceptions. These exceptions are described in the attached Declaration PDF Document (183 KB)

5. For those animals and products which are permitted provided they meet certain conditions, the accompanying documentation has to be annotated accordingly confirming that each consignment complies with the requirements of Decision 2006/135/EC. This applies to:

-- day old chicks
-- pet birds (see below)
-- hatching eggs
-- meat
-- eggs for human consumption
-- animals by-products

6. Pet birds originating in Areas A and B, must be accompanied by a health certificate laid down in Decision 2006/135/EC.
