In view of the recent human cases of avian flu in Indonesia, public health professionals from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (July 2) gave two health talks to about 500 Indonesian to remind them to be vigilant about the disease.

The talks were held in the Kowloon Mosque and a centre in North Point. Leaflets in Indonesian language entitled "Avian Flu fact sheet" and "What you need to know to prepare for an influenza pandemic - Tips for Foreign Domestic Helpers" were distributed to the audience.

"The event is part of the CHP's efforts to arouse public awareness of the threat of avian flu.

"As the Indonesian community in Hong Kong is closely-knit, an event of this kind could help disseminate health messages within members of the community,' a CHP spokesman said.
