Meloxicam And Hypertension
posted by richard weingarten on 23 Jun 2007 at 9:22 amI was prescribed Meloxicam to relieve joint and muscle pain following exercise, pain also associated with the use of Crestor that was simultaneously discontinued by the prescribing physician. Within days my blood pressure, ordinarily controlled within normal limits by Lotrel 10/20, went haywire, jumping as high as 194/110.
Told to make periodic checks, the pressure readings varied during the days from 126/74 to 186/98, but up and down. My internist, indeed, checked my monitor against his and was satisfied that the recordings were accurate. He then took me off Meloxicam. Two days later, I experienced colorectal bleeding resulting in a brief hospital stay and a colonoscopy. The bleeding was attributed to a diverticuli possibly caused by the large blood presssure variations. My blood pressure returned to normal within a week after stopping use of Meloxicam.
