Today, The Follieri Foundation completed the first phase of a three-day program giving 1,000 Hepatitis A vaccines to children in San Marcos, Carazo, Nicaragua, a rural community outside the capital, Managua. As part of the program, Anne Hathaway, Actor, and Raffaello Follieri, Founder and Chairman of The Follieri Foundation, traveled to Nicaragua to help take part in the vaccination process. This gift represents the first contribution to a vaccine program that will take The Follieri Foundation throughout Central America during the next five years.

Nicaragua has some of the highest rates of childhood mortality from communicable disease in Latin America. Today's vaccination program is conducted in partnership with the Ave Maria College of the Americas in San Marcos, Carazo, Nicaragua and in cooperation with the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health.

"One of the diseases which causes infant mortality is caused by the Hepatitis A virus, which is spread through contaminated food and water, or through human contact," said Anne Hathaway, board member of The Follieri Foundation and Actor. She continued, "The Hepatitis A virus is preventable and with The Follieri Foundation providing these types of vaccination programs, we will have an enormous impact on the future lives of these children and their families."

"The Follieri Foundation is dedicated to creating and funding programs that will make a difference in peoples' lives. Each program is designed to meet the needs of the local communities," said Raffaello Follieri, Founder and Chairman of The Follieri Foundation. He continued, "I am proud of the progress the Foundation has already made in its young life, both abroad, with programs in Nicaragua and Brazil, and in the United States, with our national prescription drug card program. It is fulfilling to know that our efforts and the fruits of our labor can benefit people across the globe."
