Yesterday, a front page article in Roll Call, a daily newspaper for Capitol Hill, profiled the tight Republican primary fight for the seat held by Congressman Joe Schwarz (R-Mich.), the physician who introduced H.R. 5513, the Home Oxygen Patient Protection (HOPP) Act.

Schwarz faces Tim Walberg, a former state representative, for the Republican nomination in a conservative Republican district. Roll Call reports, "Schwarz is supported by Bush and the Republican Congressional leadership, and his old friend Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)….But it may not be enough." Walberg has more cash available going into the final weeks plus support from the Club for Growth and social conservatives.

Congressman Schwarz was the keynote speaker at the American Association for Homecare Washington Legislative Fly-In in June and received the 2006 Homecare Champion Award from AAHomecare.
