The Queen (of the UK) will be in hospital today having a torn cartilage removed from her left knee. She was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital (London, UK) yesterday evening in preparation for keyhole surgery.

She had a similar operation on her right knee last January.

A Buckingham Palace Spokeswoman said, 'The Queen is expected to leave hospital some time during the weekend and she should be fully active again within a few weeks,'

As she got out of her car last night and walked to the hospital building, she did not seem to be in any pain or discomfort.

The Queen is now 77, she has enjoyed excellent health throughout her life. She jarred her knee while walking on uneven ground at Newmarket (UK) last Christman.
