The Senate on Thursday passed an omnibus Department of Veterans Affairs bill (S 2694) that includes provisions from more than a dozen other bills, CQ Today reports. Health-related provisions in the bill would:
- Offer veterans better access to an attorney when they are appealing the VA benefits process;
- Establish an office of rural health within VA's health office;
- Extend benefits for veterans with service-related disabilities to include nursing home care at state facilities;
- Establish Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis centers of excellence within the VA health system; and
- Repeal fixed, four-year terms for the undersecretaries of Veterans Affairs for health and for benefits (Retter/Yoest, CQ Today, 8/4).
