BrainLAB, a global leader in image-guided medical technology, today announced that Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY; Methodist Hospital, part of Park Nicollet Health Services, St. Louis Park, MN and Summa Health in Akron, OH are the most recent sites to purchase Novalis(R) Shaped Beam Surgery systems.

Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery is an integrated treatment system that shapes beams of focused high-energy radiation from all angles to deliver non- invasive, precise treatments that shrink or control the growth of tumor cells of the brain, head, neck, spine, liver, lung and prostate. Novalis is also used to treat arteriovenous malformations and functional disorders. With the Novalis technology, harm to surrounding tissue is significantly reduced.

Novalis offers a wide range of treatment options for a large number of indications, and is the only system on the market that can treat with single stage, as well as hypo and hyper-fractionation, and in a frameless or frame- based mode. It also offers the option to treat with circular beams, conformal beams, dynamic conformal arcs, and IMRT.

The procedure typically lasts 10-15 minutes, is virtually painless, and obviates lengthy hospital stays or rehabilitation, allowing the patient to return home the same day.
