SMC Business Councils Sponsoring Avian Flu Conference

SMC Business Councils announced today that it is sponsoring a comprehensive conference on Avian Flu. The Conference, "Pandemic Influenza Preparedness," will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the Westinghouse Research & Technology Park, 1382 Beulah Road in Churchill from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost of the program is $35 per person. Reservations can be made on the Association's website, http://www.smc.org/.

According to SMC President Cliff Shannon, "Small and privately held companies are the organizations most vulnerable to the risks of a pandemic." According to Shannon, the conference will explore programs businesses can adopt to maintain the continuity of their operations. Other areas to be covered will include cross training for employees, expansion of information technologies to allow employees to work from home, and employee education programs to reduce the impact of influenza viruses on health and work performance.

Representatives from the PA Department of Health, Mayview State Hospital, Three Rivers Contingency Planning Association, Allegheny County Health Department, Allegheny County Emergency Management, and the PA Emergency Management Agency will participate in the program.
