Psoriasis is a debilitating condition that requires continuous treatment. It is a dry, scaly skin condition in which cells are produced too quickly. 125 million people worldwide - up to 3% of the population have psoriasis.

-- 23% of people - that's 28 million - with psoriasis go on to develop psoriatic arthritis. Quality of life (QoL) research shows that people with psoriasis have almost the same reduction in QoL as people with diseases such as cancer, diabetes or depression. Psoriasis can even lead some patients to consider suicide as the only alternative they have.

-- It is not contagious.

-- No one treatment works for everyone.

-- Psoriatic arthritis is a specific type of arthritis, which is usually associated with psoriasis. It causes pain and inflammation in and around the joints.

-- Many people with psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis avoid social activities including swimming for fear of the reaction of those around them.

-- Poor diagnosis and treatment means that many people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis suffer in silence.

-- Recently, new biological therapies have been introduced giving new hope to people with psoriasis.
