Hong Kong health authorities said on Sunday they had been informed of a third suspected case of the SARS virus in China's southern Guangdong province.

'Around noon today we had a verbal notification from Guangdong about a new suspected case of SARS,' said doctor Thomas Tsang, a Hong Kong Department of Health consultant in Community Medicine.

The case involved a 35-year-old man, he said.

A 20-year-old waitress in the province last week became the second suspected case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) there since July.

A 32-year-old man confirmed to have the disease was released from hospital last Thursday.
