At the 14th Annual Asian Pacific Congress of Cardiology (Singapore) top cardiologists are predicting (warning) that Asians could be increasing their risk of stroke.
They say this is due to an ever rising level of cholesterol (in people) in Asia.
In the West (Europe, North America) stroke is the third biggest cause of premature death (25% of stroke patients go on to have another stroke within 5 years).
In 2003, incidences of stroke in Asia (both fatal and non-fatal ischaemic stroke) increased by 25%.
