A woman in Bucharest (Romania) had a giant tumour (US Spelling: tumor) removed by a team of Romanian and US doctors. The operation was a success and Lucica Bunghez (the patient) is recovering well.

The operation lasted eight hours. The tumour weighed 175 pounds (80kg).

The tumour had covered her back, waist and hips. It weighed more than she weighs now (after its removal).
v "She is very well, the lack of the tumour really suits her," said Ion Lascar, head of the plastic surgery department of Floreasca Hospital (Bucharest).

The medical team included a US surgeon who had removed a 200-pound tumour from an American woman (1998).

The Discovery Channel paid for the operation (in exchange for film rights).

Lucica Bunghez first noticed a lump when she was 22 years old - it was removed and weighed 33 pounds. It then reappeared and grew and grew.

The largest tumour ever to be removed (according to the Guinness Book of Records) weighed 302 pounds. The patient was a woman (1991). The patient survived and made a full recovery.
