The Nigerian government plans to build a National Clinical Research and Training Center in the capital, Abuja, to conduct research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as on avian and pandemic influenza, Health Minister Eyitayo Lambo said recently, Xinhua News Agency reports. The $11.4 million center will aim to conduct HIV tests on roughly 10,000 people annually, Lambo said. The Nigerian government is working with the Institute of Human Virology-Nigeria, the Nigerian Centers for Diseases Control and the World Bank to establish the center. William Blattner of IHV-Nigeria said the center will help Nigeria and its partners provide quality care and treatment nationwide (Xinhua News Agency, 11/12).
