The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) has completed and released the results of a groundbreaking national survey of the total compensation practices of companies operating professionally managed assisted living communities for seniors. The 2006 ALFA Assisted Living Compensation Survey reveals highly detailed never-before-compiled data on senior living compensation.

"We're extremely pleased with the volume and quality of the data collected this year," said ALFA President/CEO Richard Grimes. "Because our members were eager to participate, the report provides the most authoritative and statistically valid compensation data available."

Data was gathered and analyzed by Western Management Group (WMG), a leader in conducting industry-wide compensation surveys. Approximately 50 senior living companies submitted their compensation information, covering all aspects of actual total cash compensation (base pay and variable) for 139,624 active employees in 107 different jobs. Employee compensation at all levels of the senior living business was included--from individual community to corporate office job titles. "Next year, we expect to double or even triple the number of participants," said Grimes. "Already, numerous companies have asked how they can get involved," said Grimes.

Prominent companies that submitted compensation data for all their employees nationwide included:

-- Atria Senior Living Group
-- Benchmark Assisted Living
-- Brookdale Senior Living
-- Classic Residence by Hyatt
-- Emeritus Assisted Living
-- Erickson Retirement Communities
-- Five Star Quality Care
-- Golden Ventures
-- HCR Manorcare
-- Kindred Healthcare
-- Life Care Services
-- Pacific Retirement Services
-- Sava Senior Care
-- Summerville Senior Living
-- Sunrise Senior Living

The study will be conducted annually, and ALFA expects it will be fully institutionalized as the benchmark to which employers can compare their employee salaries.

Detailed survey reports, including numerous optional cuts of the data, are available only to participating companies. Senior living companies interested in learning more about the project, including how to participate in the 2007 study, may contact ALFA Chief Programs Officer Marilen King at mking@alfa.org or Western Management Group, ALFA's independent third-party survey facilitator (Donna Bowman, 408.358.0450 x28 or donnab@wmgnet.com).
