European experts are saying that by the year 2015, at least half of all Europeans will be suffering from one form of allergy or another.
They say that this will seriously affect the health and quality of life of the people (who have an allergy).
According to a study by the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood, the UK tops the European teenage asthma league.
80% of asthma cases are due to an allergy.
In Belgium, a five-year-study is being carried out by Professor Paul Van Cauwenberge (Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Ghent). 25 other universities and research institutes are also cooperating in this study.
Their aim is to tackle nine issues which experts think are the cause of this allergy epidemic.
This study is called the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network.
