Major subjects will be:
-- Existing data of MS in Europe
-- Data collection and methodology across the EU
-- Best Practice and the Code of Good Practice
-- MS and the future
This unprecedented conference is part of the MS-Information Dividend project of the European MS Platform, which will start in 2007 with the support of the European Commission. The main objectives of the project are:
1 - The analysis and comparison of MS Data collection systems (such as the few existing National MS Registries, EDMUS, the SLRC and others)
2 - The exploration of possible new methodologies to compare the data collected in such systems across the EU Member States, to link in with
3 - The promotion of an European Code of Good Practice on the quality of life of people with MS, as demanded unanimously in the European Parliament and developed by EMSP
This MS conference on the eve of an EU Health Council will be a springboard for raising awareness at political level on the profound gaps and inequities in terms of the availability of therapies and services for people with MS across the European Union and the potential role of the European Code of Good Practice in MS to raise the standards throughout Europe. National MS societies are at the forefront as important actors - in concert with the EU - in the information process towards national health authorities, health insurance organizations and sick funds, scientists, MS medical experts, social workers, sponsors... All these stakeholders will be invited to our landmark meeting.
In short:
29 & 30 May 2007, Brussels
Draft programme covers: the Launch of the Code of Good Practice and its European reference guidelines in the fields of disease modifying therapies, symptomatic treatment, rehabilitation and the principles of quality of life, an overview on existing data collection systems on MS, an update on the cost of illness studies, and some “Good Practice” cases.
A detailed programme with venue, PR opportunities, speakers and facilitators will be available soon.
