New research in heart disease and its relationship to other health issues offers earlier detection of cardiac problems.
Research on the strong connection between heart disease and erectile dysfunction (ED) is giving doctors new information about understanding the important connections between these two diseases. One study shows that 64 percent of men who have heart attacks had some degree of erectile dysfunction before they were diagnosed with heart disease.
The same damaging process that reduces blood flow to the heart and contributes to coronary artery disease can also affect blood vessels elsewhere in the body, including those related to ED. Although developing ED is distressing, it may have a silver lining. It could tip off men and their doctor to possible early and more treatable cardiovascular disease.
Medical experts affiliated with The Medical Center of Aurora have teamed up to help educate the community about the relationship between heart disease and related disorders in a free, public information series: Attack Heart Disease -- Before It Attacks You. The first seminar in this series features the relationship between heart disease and ED:
The Attack Heart Disease series is part of the City of Aurora's commitment to making Aurora the most heart healthy city in Colorado.
Future seminars will include:
-- Heart Disease and Women -- a "best kept secret" in women's health
-- New Technology for Treating Heart Disease -- Livesaving breakthroughs
-- Managing Heart Disease and Diabetes -- Good control saves lives
-- Located at I-225 and Mississippi The Medical Center of Aurora
