If you are a woman and you smoke 15 or more cigarettes a day you will probably take twice as long as a non-smoking woman to get pregnant.

A study was carried out at Hull University, UK. The researchers collected data on 2,000 couples from an ante-natal clinic.

If you are a man and drink more than 10 pints of beer a week you will take longer to become a father or have a second child than a man who does not drink that much per week.

The older the couple the longer they will take to conceive.

If the woman is overweight or underweight she will take longer to get pregnant.

If you are a woman and drink more than six cups of tea or coffee a day you will also need more time to get pregnant than a non-coffee, non-tea drinker.

The report did not state what effect tea or coffee has on a man's fertility.

Women Coffee Drinkers Reduced Fertility - Research Questions

posted by J. A. Travis on 18 Mar 2004 at 6:58 pm

Am wondering what kind of controls were used in the researching of women coffee drinkers and older women getting pregnant. Had my first child at 42 because that was when I wanted a child and felt I was ready. No problem with conception. Have been a coffee drinker since early twenties when living in San Francisco near a store called Peets, Coffee, Tea and Spice on Polk Street. Bought my first grinder in 1966-67. Experience causes me to question medical research findings. JT
