The Prem Rawat Foundation Awards Grant To Support Flood-Relief Efforts In Indonesia

The Prem Rawat Foundation announced that it made a critical grant to The Indonesian Development of Education and Permaculture Foundation (IDEP) supporting a program that is currently underway to provide relief efforts for the victims of the flash floods and landslides in Aceh and North Sumatra provinces of Indonesia.

The contribution will be used to provide emergency food supplies to communities affected by the December 2006 floods that are not being targeted by other relief organizations. The money will help make nutritious food available for 480 families (at least 1000 people) and help re-establish clean drinking water. Refugees in the areas that have not received any assistance to date will be given supplies including rice, noodles, cooking oil and kerosene.

In recognition of the Foundation's contribution for flood relief, Petra Schneider, executive director of Yayasan IDEP, said: "We would like to express our sincere thanks to The Prem Rawat Foundation for the very timely support that has been provided for the relief efforts. On behalf of all of the beneficiaries of this program, IDEP Foundation would like to express its heartfelt gratitude for this opportunity to help these people in their time of great need."

Yayasan IDEP is an Indonesian non-profit NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), which is committed to developing self-sustainability and directly empowering local communities to improve their own situations. They believe that permanent results can be achieved through local empowerment.

Since the Bali bombing tragedy in October 2002, the rapid decline of Bali's economic stability has underscored the unsustainability of an economy primarily based on tourism. Yayasan IDEP is addressing increased requests for support from local communities to continue and expand its programs.

In 2003, IDEP launched a Community Based Crisis Response Program that will help local Indonesian communities to be more prepared for and to better manage disasters.
