It is possible that Prozac may increase gastrointestinal bleeding risk. It might also increase the patient's chances of having nosebleeds and other haemorrhages.

A new study says that it should not be given to elderly people who have bleeding disorders. The same applies for other SSRIs.

You can read about it in the journal Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin.

The study looked at 12,000 patients. The researchers found that the people who had gastrointestinal bleeding were three times more likely to be on an SSRI during the previous thirty days than those who were not.

Aspirin also increases gastrointestinal bleeding risk.
