US Regulators and the Justice Department said that a doctor from Alabama has been sentenced to more than four years in prison. She admitted fabricating research for a drug experiment. She will also have to pay $1.5 million in fines and restitution.

They said that Ann Campbell pleaded guilty. The charges were of mail fraud.

Apparently, she had submitted information to Aventis Pharmaceuticals Incorporated. The data included and named people who had participated in her research on behalf of the company. However, these people had not participated.

FDA and United States Attorney Alice Martin said "Campbell submitted the falsified data to Aventis Pharma, Inc, which was sponsoring the drug study to determine the safety and effectiveness of the new drug."

Ann Campbell had to pay a $557,251 fine and $925,775 to Aventis Pharmaceuticals Incorporated.
