The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced today that it has just published three new books geared to the pharmacy practice site and classroom: Leadership and Advocacy for Pharmacy, Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy: Optimal Patient-Care = Best Knowledge + Competent Practitioner, and A Practical Guide to Pharmaceutical Care: A Clinical Skills Primer, 3rd edition.
In Leadership and Advocacy for Pharmacy, noted pharmacy leaders present lessons based on personal experience that will help pharmacists and student pharmacists become effective leaders and advocates. Spanning federal, state, and grassroots action, the book informs, guides, and inspires readers about leading and advocating for the achievement of the profession's goals.
Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy covers all aspects of accessing, interpreting, and applying the best knowledge about medications to ensure optimal patient care. It is a practical, systematic guide to incorporating evidence-based medicine into medication decision making. Packaged with the book is a CD-ROM that contains all appendix material plus supplemental information and exercises to test the skills learned in several chapters.
The new 3rd edition of A Practical Guide to Pharmaceutical Care focuses entirely on the patient care skills that pharmacists need to practice pharmaceutical care. Chapters on each major clinical skill - identifying drug therapy problems, collecting patient data, evaluating patient data, developing patient care plans, and documenting pharmacist - patient encounters - feature self assessment questions to help readers practice and refine their new skills. Four new chapters center on case studies that show how clinical skills are applied in community pharmacies, hospitals, long-term-care facilities, and ambulatory clinics, respectively.
