The Commonwealth Government commissioned a review into ADHD treatment guidelines in November 2006.

The Government has funded Royal Australasian College of Physicians $135,000 to conduct this review which should be finalised late this year. Results from this review will be circulated to specialists and doctors to inform their treatment of ADHD.

At the Government's request, the TGA has already conducted a review of ADHD medicines and has strengthened existing warnings in the Product Information document for health professionals.

Over-prescription of ADHD medication is of concern and the Government will continue to monitor the situation closely over the coming months.
