PBS has recently shot a feature story on the effect of the Transcendental Meditation technique on ADHD. We have just learned that it will air this May 25-27 weekend throughout the USA.
To find when it is airing this weekend in your city go to: www.pbs.org/ttc/schedule.html and enter your local zip code.
This 10 minute segment will appear on the program, "TO THE CONTRARY", a popular program for parents.
The segment is quite inspiring. PBS interviewed students at American University and the Kingsbury School who have ADHD and who are practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique. PBS also interviewed researchers Sarina Grosswald and Alarik Arenander.
If you have children or grandchildren who have ADHD you may find this program interesting.

Transendental Meditation Is Dangerous.
posted by Gary Gold on 20 May 2007 at 8:18 pmNot everything of a spiritual nature is good for us. Anytime we venture into spiritual explorations we desperately need discernment. During the height of Transcendental Meditation fad in the 70's, the TM instrutors also had the highest suicide rate of any trainers in a spiritual system. TM is just recycled hinduism which, at the heart of the system, inductees are given a mantra which is a past hindu god which is to be chanted unnumbered times each day leading into peaceful bliss. The opposite is true. The person chanting the name invites spiritual parasites to oppress them. I speak out of experience and not theory. Gary Gold PhD
I Agree With Gary
posted by James Hardwood on 21 May 2007 at 12:06 pmMeditation is UnChristian. It is an act of evil which invites fornication, Satan and all his followers. It should be kept far away from decent, God-fearing folk.
I Hate Spiritual Parasites!
posted by cantubury on 24 May 2007 at 11:15 amI do take dr. natural's herbs for my colon's intestinal parasites. What natural remedy do i use for "spiritual parasites". Is there a test.! Is this just a mens issue? Does newsflashradio know about this? Where can I find info about the Church of Average Grace? I understand they have a cure. thx for the 411; I will block any transendentialists from my emails.
TM Is Hindusim
posted by Roger on 26 May 2007 at 9:45 amChanting incantations to Hindu dieties is a dangerous spiritual and religious activity. I am amazed that media still hasn't got this yet. All you have to do is ask a few former Hindu converts to Chrisitanity in India how dangerous some of the hindu spiritual entities (demons) really are.
The whole Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) are is replete with religuous and occult techniques. We have the government spending hundreds of millions on researching religious fads and then trying to get them into public schools but we can't even discuss "intelligent Design." However, we can rename radiology, "energy medicine" and include Reiki and chakra therapy and Tai Chi with MRI's and sonograms.
Go figure. For more info on TM see http://www.yogadangers.com.
Roger Is Right
posted by Reverend Ian Porter on 26 May 2007 at 1:09 pmAmerica is populated by God Fearing Christians. Anyone treading the waters of acupuncture, homeopathy and other heathen rites is dancing with Satan and all his non-American demons. God Bless America - may he protect us from foreigners and their evil.
Who Is More Scary?
posted by Geroge Simmons on 26 May 2007 at 1:22 pmAs an Englishman reading the article and some of these comments, I have just one thing to say:
These American Jesus Freaks who attack Meditation sound more frightening and "evil" than the people they are attacking, to me.
Ummm...Yeah...
posted by Rocknrye on 31 May 2007 at 8:43 amI didn't know that backwards Nascar fans could even spell "Transcendental", yet not know that most, if not all, religions are the same. They just have different names and some practices. Let's see, the serious Christians are the "Snake Charmers". Prayer is different than meditation? Chanting names: Who will save me? "Jesus"!; Who's the man? "Jesus!" I just don't see the difference yet and I've been studying theology for the better part of my life. Foreigners fly planes into big buildings but citizens teach them how to. Well, they did pay for the lessons didn't they?
To George The Frightened Englishman
posted by Roger on 1 Jun 2007 at 7:13 amYes us Christians are just intolerant backwoods nuckledragging snake-handling neandrethals in need of serious orthodontia. Well I am a former Anglican and have an advanced degree from Carnegie-Mellon and was a published behavior therpast at Johns Hopkins. While traveling in South Africa I ministered at a church of almost two thousand former Hindus of east Indian descent (they were brought as slaves to Durban, South Africa.) The demonic oppression from these Hindu dieities is real. I saw people go into trances and slither around like snakes. Us Americans are above believing in this stuff but it is real. Most of members of the church were well educated and have even renounced vegetarianism in their efforts to break free of Hindu strongholds.
Nascar is ok but I prefer Formula 1.

US Churches Have Their People In A Trance-like State
posted by Janet Kenneth on 1 Jun 2007 at 11:23 amI am from Scotland. When travelling around the USA last year I came across three so-called 'Christian Churches' where people chanted as a person was 'miraculously cured'. The person was in such a state I thought he had epilepsy. I have been told many churches in the USA use this technique as it is catchy and pulls in the crowds.
I would never, ever heed the paranoid rantings of a vain, American man of the cloth.
US Churches
posted by Maria Fuentes on 1 Jun 2007 at 11:27 amI am from Colombia and live in Alabama, USA. I came here 8 years ago. During my first month I was taken to a 'christian church' by some people. I was shocked. It was more like a show, with chantings, performances, 'miracles' while you watch. I would never trust an American religious man - there is too much showbusiness and bigotry in his soul, and not enough love.
