Safety Sleep Systems, Inc. (SSSI) announced today that on May 2, 2007 it successfully tested a new communications technology that integrates advanced equipment for the recording and monitoring of people suffering from Sleep Disorder Breathing (SDB) such as sleep apnea.

The test demonstrated SSSI's ability to successfully diagnose, monitor, and treat SDB conditions in a patient that is remotely located from the evaluation facility. The technology uses a combination of cell phone, pager, and satellite communications to provide the widest possible coverage throughout the United States. The test is the result of SSSI working in collaboration with leading manufacturers of advanced diagnostic and monitoring equipment for SDB and other respiratory disorders, such as ResMed and Cadwell Laboratories.

Mr. Bruce Keltner, SSSI CEO, said, "This advances the ambulatory diagnosis and treatment of SDB. By being able to have certified sleep specialists remotely monitor patient conditions in real time, we can provide a level of feedback, treatment, and compliance heretofore unknown in the industry. By improving accuracy, effectiveness, cost, and convenience of diagnosis and treatment we can now alleviate a troubling issue for commercial drivers. An effective, low-cost, ambulatory solution with real-time monitoring and feedback is now a reality."

For the past several years the issue of sleep apnea has been an increasing problem, especially for the trucking industry. For commercial drivers, sleep apnea is dangerous and potentially deadly. For this reason, the trucking industry is highly concerned about sleep disorders because of the potential loss of life and property resulting from sleep apnea-related accidents that could be avoided with early and effective treatment of drivers. This has resulted in changes to U.S. federal statutes and state laws that now require CMV drivers to under go medical qualification examinations at least every two years.
