NEW YORK -- Pfizer announced that it has filed a lawsuit against the operator of "look4generics.com," an internet site selling an unapproved copy of Pfizer's cholesterol drug, Lipitor. The suit was filed today in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
Pfizer said that the "look4generics.com" site-which markets the product as "Storvas"-advertises that it is manufactured by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. of India.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction against further sales of "Storvas" and claims infringement of Pfizer's patent and trademark rights for Lipitor. The complaint also seeks to remove references to Lipitor in advertising materials and to eliminate computer links that misdirect patients needing Lipitor to a drug that is neither manufactured by Pfizer nor approved by the FDA and is therefore being sold illegally.
