Researchers were overjoyed when Yoda, their genetically modified mouse broke the life expectancy record for mice. The researchers are from Michigan University Medical School, USA.
Yoda is now four years old. Most mice live until they are just over two.
Yoda is still sexually mobile and looking good, says one of the researchers. That is pretty good for a 136-year-old.
Yoda has a genetic make-up which affects his pituitary and thyroid glands. He produces less insulin. He is a small mouse, much smaller than his peers, and he is extremely sensitive to cold.
The researchers are interested in how altered hormone levels can slow down the aging process. They want to see if any methods could be applied to humans one day.
