On May 6th all US 13,500 McDonald restaurants will be offering an Adult Happy Meal with salad, a pedometer (measures how many paces you take), bottled water and advice telling you to walk more. They are calling these types of meals their Go Active meals for adults.
McDonald's has been trying to create a healthy image after months of criticism from the public and health organisations. Many people in the USA feel that fast foods and fast food restaurants are partly to blame for the country's rocketing obesity problem.
McDonald's aim is to attract the health-conscious consumer.
As from June in the USA, McDonald's says it will offer healthier choices for children in their menus. Kids will be able to have apple slices and fruit juice rather than french fries and a fizzy drink.
Consumers will also be able to read pamphlets that tell them how to order McDonald's foods so that the calorie and fat content can be according to their wishes. Such tips as have your meal without the cheese or the bread will be included.
MacDonald's will be introducing low-fat dressing, more types of salads and nutritional information on their Happy Meals.
Tommy Thompson, US Health and Human Services Secretary, praised the company for taking such a pioneering move.

McDonalds
posted by Morgan on 10 Jul 2007 at 9:54 amOf course, it is McDonalds fault that parents can't say no when a child says they want to McDonalds isn't it? It is also their fault that despite offering healthy food for the parents that can't say no, they still pick the unhealthy option. Hasn’t anyone realised? McDonalds can do no more; it is now down to people to take responsibility for their own actions. Going to a McDonalds every now and then is not going to make you fat! Going every day will, and surely the parents who can't say no must draw a line somewhere!
What Is The Point In McDonalds
posted by Ele on 20 Jun 2007 at 11:18 amI've had a great idea. Let's send our kids to McDonalds and watch them get fat by the second. Britain seems to wonder why we have all these obesity issues. Well maybe it's because u can't go to a flipping town without bumping into one of those "much loved" McDonalds. There is actually no point to these fat barns. Unless well - you want to put on weight and become filled with fat.
McDonalds new range of foods - lets take responsibility for our own actions
posted by C. Dumois on 15 Apr 2004 at 8:25 pmIt's time that people take respnsibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else. Its great that McDonalds will offer a healthy choice. But lets face it, if you are a regular customer at McDonalds or other fast food resturaunts and are accustomed to ordering a burger meal and super size it, you not all of a sudden going to start ordering a salad and water. When I go to McDonalds, I go to enjoy my greasy hamburger with cheese and great tasting fries. I know what the carb / fat and cholesterol content is and I don't do it every day.
So, great for McDonalds, but lets start taking responsibility for our own actions and lets not allow those idiots to ruin the world for us who do.
