The porn industry in California, USA, has suspended all shootings because an actor was found to be HIV positive. The porn industry of California will stop filming for a couple of months so that they can test their actors.
An AIM (Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation) spokesperson, Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell said that one of its actors, Darren James, tested positive for HIV. AIM regularly tests it 1,200 actors for HIV. According to Mitchell, 17% of its actors use condoms.
Darren James has been tested every three weeks for the last seven years and has always been clean, said AIM. Dr. Mitchell reckons James may have got the virus while filming in Brazil. During the filming there he did not use a condom.
AIM has to test 14 actresses who had sex with James while filming. They also have to test 35 other people these actresses had sex with as well.
The Californian porn industry makes about four films a day. The actors have been quarantined and AIM has declared a moratorium on filming until they know whom, if anybody, has been infected. They will be quarantined until the beginning of June.

Porn industry, what is really incredible ...
posted by John Jones on 16 Apr 2004 at 6:44 pm... is the fact that this industry isn't saturated with HIV. Four films a day in California??? Isn't that sorta like playing Russian Roulette? This certainly isn't the first time an HIV episode has occured ... One of the "kings" of porn, John Holmes, died of AIDS related conditions in 1988. We can only guess how many times cases have occured. Can this industry really get a handle on control or prevention? Even after a person is infected, it can take months to years for antibodies to develop to levels where they can be detected. A "negative" test doesn't mean you're not infected. Testing every 3 weeks with actors who are still "active" is like trying to put a bandaid on a crushed skull.
