The Genetics & IVF Institute (GIVF), headquartered in Fairfax, VA, announced today that it has created 14,000 pregnancies worldwide using in vitro fertilization (IIVF). Many of the 14,000 pregnancies were in patients with particularly challenging infertility problems, including some who had been rejected for treatment by other centers or who had previously suffered repeated IVF failures.

"Every pregnancy is a cause for joy. The patients who come to GIVF seeking help to become pregnant are elated to learn that they have achieved pregnancy and our staff is thrilled to help them," says David W. Wise, GIVF's president and CEO. "We are constantly seeking new technologies and techniques to help patients with complex infertility problems to achieve pregnancy."

Founded in 1984, Genetics & IVF Institute is the only fertility center in America that integrates state-of-the-art infertility treatment with extensive expertise in genetic testing, genetic counseling and pre-natal testing. It was the first American fertility center to integrate high-technology infertility and genetic services.

GIVF has been responsible for numerous key innovations to help couples have healthy babies. GIVF achieved America's first frozen embryo twin birth, developed a revolutionary new sperm separation technique for pre-conceptual gender selection called MicroSort(R), which is currently undergoing clinical testing and which has already produced hundreds of babies and GIVF has one of America's largest preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) programs. GIVF's donor egg program is a magnet for patients from around the world.

GIVF's main offices and laboratories are located in Fairfax, VA, with additional offices in Ashburn, VA and Bethesda, MD. GIVF also owns medical or laboratory facilities in diverse locations including Texas, Minnesota, California, and China, where it operates infertility clinics.

In vitro fertilization is a laboratory procedure in which sperm are placed with an unfertilized egg in a Petri dish to achieve fertilization and the embryos that result are transferred into a woman's uterus.
